Pictured is the new secretary to the Wensleydale Agricultural Show Committee, Jenny Bowes with her young helpers Alice and James.
Jenny Bowes, a farmer from East Witton near Middleham, replaces Judith Carlisle who stood down last year and joins the three-strong team. Along with Sara North and Sandy Carter she will jointly organise one of Wensleydale’s largest one-day events.
Jointly with husband Lenny, Mrs Bowes runs their farm on the Danby Estate near Middleham tending to a flock of 850 sheep. She said: “I am pleased to accept the job and I’m excited to be working on behalf of the Wensleydale Show. It will be an interesting challenge and I know many of the people involved from my time in the Young Farmers.”
Over the years she has been a regular visitor to the show exhibiting ponies and Holstein cattle; many years ago she won a first prize for her baking.
Show chairman Bob Dixon said: “We are pleased to have Jenny as part of the team. I hope she enjoys helping to organise an event that has been part of Wensleydale life for over 100 years.”
